Mattarella: "Hope extends from Gaza to Ukraine."

"The hope is that the 'spark of hope,' as Leo XIV called it, ignited in the Holy Land will also extend to Ukraine, where negotiating initiatives are still struggling to materialize, while the suffering of children, women, and men caused by Russian aggression shows no sign of abating. What is happening requires us to persevere in a common, balanced response, driven by a sense of justice and respect for international law, and by the universal validity of human rights. These are the principles in which the Italian Republic recognizes itself." This was stated by President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella , speaking at the International Meeting "Dare to Peace," organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio.
"The news from Gaza after the truce reminds us that peace processes require patience, responsibility, and perseverance," said the President of the Republic.
"The violence, even verbal, that characterizes our contemporary world, involves behaviors that would deserve the label of hooliganism. It is unclear how behaviors considered deplorable" in everyday life "have the pretension of being considered political acts" in international forums, "while the word dialogue is attributed to the connotation of weakness, of submissiveness."
